The 2022 EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler Once Again Earns Title as a “Zero Waste” Event
PITTSBURGH, PA – P3R is pleased to announce that the 2022 EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler once again earned the designation as a “zero waste” event. During the Nov. 6 event, P3R, along with event partners, were able to divert more than 97 percent of the event’s waste (including food recovery) from the landfill.
“Sustainability has always been important to P3R,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “We always want to have a positive impact in our community, and hosting zero waste events is a big part of that. We are grateful for the support of our community partners who help us do better each year.”
P3R once again partnered with the Pennsylvania Resource Council to create a comprehensive sustainability plan for the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. Working together they successfully recycled, reused or composted more than 2,000 pounds of waste generated by the event that would have otherwise gone to the landfill.
“We have assisted P3R with implementing Zero Waste strategies at the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler since 2014,” said Emily Potoczny, ZeroWastePA program manager. “This year’s diversion rate improved to an even greater level of diversion than previous years, and overall waste production decreased by over 1,000 pounds in 2022!”
This year Evoqua Water Technologies was the Official Sustainability Partner for P3R events, including the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. Through the partnership, P3R was able to grow its sustainability initiatives and ensure that P3R races continued the legacy of being “zero waste” events.
"Evoqua Water Technologies is proud to be the official sustainability partner for P3R," said Ron Keating, Evoqua's Chief Executive Officer. "P3R leads the way in creating world-class events with a zero waste legacy. We are excited to work together to advance sustainability in the Pittsburgh region."
